An abandoned covered bridge was found on site...


All right, so the story above is made up.  Still we feel that the covered bridge offers an appropriate analogy.  We wanted to respect the south facing neighbors with a more neutral elevation.  Then, because the long dimension of the site faces south, we wanted to keep glazing smaller and to create a deep wall to minimize solar gain.  We saw the long roof as an ideal opportunity to provide photo-voltaic solar panels.  But, of course, the best comparison with the covered bridge is that of a long building form that is entered on the short end, as is suggested by this narrow lot.
