A children’s museum for Louisville?
This is a last-minute competition entry for the design of an imaginary children’s museum for downtown Louisville, Kentucky - there is no actual museum being planned or funded. There was no program or other direction provided. The local jurisdiction was clearly looking for ideas. I made up a program based on my past involvements with the children’s museums in Boston and Portland.
The panels to the right present the full logic for this design; but, the single most important aspect is creating a circulation system that did not require using elevators to get to the respective floors and did not presume the use of conventional 1:12 ramps. Here is an excerpt from Panel 1:
